ResCen’s focus on the professional arts marketplace meant that those involved in producing dance have always been involved and the professional arts context has always served as a reference point for the work. Arts professionals such as Theresa Beattie has offered advice and guidance over many years and in 2011 Alistair Spalding, Artistic Director and CEO of Sadler’s Wells theatre London, attended the performances and gave the keynote speech at the conference that followed.

The selection of choreographers from the UK has also benefited from professional advice including from Eddie Nixon, Artistic Director at The Place and Jih Ween Yeh-Ball from Step Out Arts. In the ResCen-Dance Umbrella collaboration which began in 2018 I realised again the importance of those who produce, present and support the development of dance artists and the dance itself. So, in planning 2019 I proposed that we include a Producers Forum to make this a formal part of the ArtsCross model.

My fellow ArtsCross Directors Xu Rui and Wang Yunyu agreed that we should include this on a trial basis and so invitations were sent, a programme of activities planned with the help of the British Council and we added yet another event to our already packed timetable. In the evaluation that followed ArtsCross we agreed that this aspect of ArtsCross should continue and that the exchange with arts professionals added to the perspectives, cultural, disciplinary and professional, that enrich the ArtsCross experience.

The ArtsCoss 2019 Producers Forum took place on 31 October 2019 in the Multifunctional Building of Beijing Dance Academy.
