UK Choreographers
Avatâra Ayuso In the last years, she has received several artistic and study grants —including the Instituto Nacional de Artes escénicas INAEM (2004), Conselleria de las Islas Baleares (2005), Roviralta (2006), Sa Nostra (2007) and Caixa Galicia (2008) Foundations. Her work has been presented in Belgium (Charleroi Danses; La Reffinerie), France (Opera de Toulon; Théâtre de la Cité du Livre d'Aix en Provence), Spain (Sa Màniga; Xesc Forteza; Fundación Caixa Galicia de A Coruña), Denmark (Aarchauz Theater), Germany (Festpielhaus Hellerau) and United Kingdom (The Place; South Bank Center; Hackney Empire). Recently, she has been artist in residence at the European Center for the Arts Hellerau, where she has presented her latest full-length production Looking Backward to To-Morrow, a collaboration between dance and architecture, in co-production with TanzPlan Dresden. In 2010 Avatâra has been awarded with the "Arras Preis für Kunst und Kultur 2010" from the Arras Foundation in Dresden in recognition for her career as an emergent choreographer. She is the artistic director of the Avatâra Ayuso Dance Company. Alexander Whitley In 2010 he joined Sydney Dance Company for six months and joined Wayne McGregor|Random Dance in September 2010. Whitley choreographed five pieces for Rambert's Seasons of New Choreography. In 2008 one of them -'Solo?' was taken into Rambert's repertoire and toured the UK. He has also shown work at the Royal Opera House's Summer Collection programme – 2009 and has recently made his first work for the Royal Ballet as part of their 2011 Draft Works programme. Whitley has also choreographed for a Discovery Channel film, directed by Tim Meara and a short film made with London film collective DuckEye. In summer 2008, he joined Michael Clark Company as a guest artist for its New York tour. Khamlane Halsackda In 1991, Halsackda attended Lewisham College on their Drama foundation course and followed this with a Dance foundation course, after which he went to the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance. Whilst there he was also with National Youth Dance Company for two years. Halsakda graduated from the Rambert School in 1998 and was employed by Richard Alston Dance Company. Since then he has worked for Henri Oguike Dance Company, Wayne McGregor/Random Dance, Glenn Wilkinson, Niklas Laustiola, Alicia Herrero, Bonachela Dance Company, 2007 Bank Project, Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, Art of Spectra (r&d), Shobana Jayesingh Dance Company and most recently Maresa Von Stockert of Tilted Productions. He has also danced for a number of Opera productions at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Opera, Opera North and Malmo Opera. Commercial employment includes dancing for Kylie Minogue and Christina Aguillera.
