Laughter at\u00a0mistakes, at\u00a0moments of\u00a0recognition, or\u00a0failed memory. There is laughter at\u00a0dancing that is funny, because its cliched, wrong, or\u00a0just <em>soooo<\/em> right for\u00a0that particular moment. And\u00a0there is laughter at\u00a0notes, at\u00a0gossip, at\u00a0anecdotes and\u00a0indiscretions. There are even jokes. Laughter enters the\u00a0room with the\u00a0dancers, wraps around them as\u00a0they work, and\u00a0drifts off as\u00a0they leave.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;laughter is working. The&nbsp;company are at&nbsp;ease in&nbsp;it and&nbsp;with it, and&nbsp;with leaving it alone. To&nbsp;be, laughing, together, is important to&nbsp;the&nbsp;work itself, even if won&#8217;t be what you see them doing on&nbsp;stage. Of&nbsp;course, rehearsing is about devising, designing, remembering and&nbsp;repeating movements, sequences, texts, entrances and&nbsp;exits, but it&#8217;s also about working on&nbsp;those more numinous things that keep company with them, that keep this group of&nbsp;people from being just who they individually are. These are the&nbsp;things that make and&nbsp;keep them a&nbsp;company.<\/p>\n<p>Laughter works, or\u00a0at\u00a0least makes space for\u00a0it, in\u00a0the\u00a0company it keeps with work itself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a\u00a0lot of\u00a0laughter in\u00a0these rehearsals.
