Project Title: Aakash and the Bollybabies
Project objective: To engage in a process of contemporary exchange with Bollywood Jazz trained dancers to see if new contemporary movement can enable new ideas for indo-contemporary movement in bodies which have Indian sensibility (perhaps classical or Bollywood training). This new information could help stimulate new ways of approaching Bollywood choreography.
Project description: Aakash will spend a week in Mumbai with two of his company dancers to exchange and workshop with the Shiamak Davar Company. Shiamak Davar is a Bollywood choreographer with much jazz experience. The exchange will be focussed on working with highly trained bodies and to extend their movement experience. Perhaps working with Bollywood music or contemporary Indian music as the stimuli, the exchange will focus on how new Western styles of movement can be integrated to present Indian contemporary or Bollywood dance.
